Desperately Seeking Susan

Desperately Seeking Susan is a movie starring Madonna released in 1985. Its about a housewife who becomes obsessed with a stranger who has articles posted in the newspaper. She hits her head in a park and forgets who she is and then starts to think she is the real Susan. However there is a man who wants her dead because he thinks she saw a murder of a man that the real Susan saw. This movie is the definition of feminism but she is very powerfully in which she gets what she wants. The housewife also proves this because is a housewife and does what is protrayed as what house wifes do.

Beauty and the Beast from 1946

Beauty and the Beast is from the director Jean Cocteau made in 1946. This movie is almost exactly like the disney one with a few differences. This version I felt was much darker then the disney one. The film also didn't have any music in it, which was good because it would of dragged out the movie. There were some articles that I read which refered to this movie as being a feminist one, in which I would have to disagree. This film doesn't deal with female empowerment, it is the total oppoisite. Also some new specials effects were added in this film.

Rashomon

Rashomon is a Japanese film that was made in 1951. The film tells a story of a woman who was raped and the murder of her husband from four different perspectives, a bandit, the woman, her husband, and a woodcutter. Each story tells a different part of the whole story but each story has parts that are true. One of the theories in this film is marxist. Marxist theory states that the plot of the film is moved around by groups of characters in the film. Overall, I thought it was interesting how this move was portrayed. It was a fast starting movie but I did find that the husband talking thru that lady was weird.

Tuffaut's 400 Blows

400 Blows is about a young boy named Antoine Doinel, as he seemingly digs himself deeper and deeper in a life of lies, robbery and loneliness. This film however is one of the leading films of the French New Wave era. This was a style of film that rejected normal cinematic form. This film however speaks to a few different models of film theory. I think that this film fits in to the realist theory as the movie is not a happy and bright one. I also thought this movie was very slow to begin with but it did pick up toward the end. In the end it is a very good movie
